What freedoms can New Hampshire communities restrict or allow on the local level?

Local laws vary across New Hampshire communities. Many communities have ordinances that relate to zoning, taxes, alcohol, panhandling, and much more. To obtain the most current information on local laws in your area you should always check with your local community.

How can residents enact local pro-freedom laws?

One of the most powerful tools residents can utilize to advance and increase freedom on the local level is a “citizen petition”. Registered voters have the right to gather enough signatures so that various legislation can be presented before a local electorate and be voted on during an election.

How is a pro-freedom “citizen petition” done?

The basic process is straightforward: gather enough valid signatures from local registered voters on a petition form about specific pro-freedom legislation and then submit that to the proper place.

The most significant differences within the process are as follows: what type of legislation can be submitted, the number of signatures needed, and the date by which the legislation needs to be received.

Communities within New Hampshire are structured differently, and with that the process also varies. New Hampshire consists of: cities, towns, townships, village districts, and school districts.

Each pro-freedom “citizen petition” page has instructions on how to go through the process within the individual New Hampshire communities.
